Gross. What kind of man offers his own daughter to be raped? Lot offered his daughter in Sodom and Gomorrah, too. Then the Levite cut up his raped, dead concubine and sent her parts to the twelve tribes. They were really mean to women. These accounts have always bothered me.

I agree Dori. The theme that keeps striking me in Judges is "In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes."

This was not the way God intended it and because people were doing right in their own eyes instead of God's eyes, we see the same sins happening over and over.

In the Torah, God set up rights for women in a way that no other society did at that time. See Numbers 27:1-7. Sadly, the law of God was largely ignored and people did what was right in their own eyes, resulting in the gross, ugly things we read about here. The same thing happens today when people ignore God and His law. Thanks be to God for the gospel which moves hearts to trust in Him and follow the path He sets for us!
