“A Word of Truth” from Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mankato…

All Glory Belongs to God

A Word of Truth #194

Whenever there is success there is potential for a struggle to take the credit for it.

Our flesh and pride would love to take credit for the faith we have, the forgiveness of sins, and our eternal salvation in heaven. A simple look at the truth shows that there is no credit to be had for us, and that all glory belongs to God!

God’s Word convicts us and shows us our sin. The Holy Spirit is the one who with the news about Jesus brings us to faith and keeps us in true faith. Through that faith we receive the forgiveness of sins and salvation, and good works are produced in our lives. “… it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:13). “Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb…Blessing and glory and wisdom, thanksgiving and honor and power and might, be to our God forever and ever. Amen!” (Revelation 7:10-12)

The Meaning of “Amen”

A Word of Truth #195

Amen, amen, amen, amen, amen!” What do Christians mean when they say or sing “amen”? “Amen” is an expression of confidence. God encourages Christians to pray and to sing His praises. He promises to answer those prayers, and declares His delight in those praises.

Christians, therefore, have every reason to take God at His word. Consequently, when a prayer or hymn of praise ends, Christians say, “Amen,” which means, “Yes, it is so!”

God wants Christians to live lives filled with confidence in His power, mercy, and love. “Amen” expresses that joyous confidence!
