“A Word of Truth” from Immanuel Lutheran Church of Mankato…

Jesus’ Resurrection is the Foundation of our Faith

A Word of Truth #090 (1 Corinthians 15:17,20)

A puzzle may be missing only one piece, but for the sake of that one piece it remains incomplete.

As our Savior, Jesus lived a perfect life to fulfill God’s law for us. He died on the cross paying the eternal punishment for the sins of the world. By this work, Jesus redeemed all sinners. However, if Jesus had remained dead in the grave, we would still be lost. Our eternal salvation required not only the fulfillment of the law and payment for sin, but also the conquering of death. Paul writes, “If Christ is not risen, your faith is futile, you are still in your sins…but now Christ is risen from the dead, and has become the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 15:17,20).

Jesus died for our sins, but death did not defeat Him and could not hold Him. He is risen! He is alive! Your sins ARE forgiven and you too will rise from death through Him.

Honor Your Parents

A Word of Truth #091 (Exodus 20:12)

Did you buy a card, or send some flowers? What did you do for your mother on Mother’s Day? Did you know that Ana Jarvis, whose efforts led Congress to declare an official Mother’s Day in 1914, died wishing she had never made the effort? The commercialization of Mother’s Day made her angry. It troubled her to think that many people seemed to believe that if they bought something for their mothers on one day each year, they were honoring them. Ana Jarvis knew that true honor for a mother involves building and treasuring a relationship with her.

God tells us, “Honor your father and your mother” (Exodus 20:12). Martin Luther taught that to truly honor your parents means never to despise or anger them, but rather to serve, obey, love, and respect them. That is something you do not just one-day a year, but everyday.
