The following is the text of the call we will extend to a teacher for our high school. The call outlines expectations for the office of teacher as well as what we as a congregation promise to the called servant. Information concerning specific classes and other details of the call are presented in an accompanying call letter.
Called to Teach
We, the members of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mankato, Minnesota, herewith call you _____________ to teach in our Immanuel Lutheran School.
In extending this call to you, we solemnly charge you:
- To instruct and train the children entrusted to you diligently and faithfully in accordance with the chief truths of the Word of God as they are revealed in the Holy Scriptures and set forth particularly in the Small Catechism of Dr. Martin Luther;
- To teach the children thoroughly in the areas of learning entrusted to your care with an evangelical spirit;
- To maintain Christian discipline within your classroom and to help do so within the school overall;
- To serve your students and the members of our congregation with an example of godly Christian conduct;
- To endeavor earnestly to live and work in Christian harmony with your pastors, principal, school administrator, and fellow teachers and staff;
- To submit to the supervision of the pastors, the Board of Education, the principal, and school administrator who are responsible for the school, and with the help of God to do everything within the limits of your call to promote the general advancement of the Kingdom of Christ in our midst; and
- To assist also, as the present circumstances of the congregation require, in the following capacities:
- Instructor in the high school primarily in the areas of advanced mathematics, physical sciences, and computer programming;
- Supervisor of study halls as necessary and as mutually agreed upon;
- Faculty advisor for student organizations and activities as mutually agreed upon;
- Fellow worker in the maintenance of our school as mutually agreed upon.
On our part we solemnly promise:
- To receive you as a servant of Jesus Christ for our children;
- To accord you the honor and love which we owe you as a servant of Christ;
- To support your work among us with our prayers and personal assistance;
- To send our children to school punctually and regularly;
- To aid you in maintaining proper Christian discipline; and
- To provide your proper maintenance according to our ability in compliance with the Word of God and for the present to pay you promptly and regularly a salary of $#,###/month (12 months/year) plus an experience increment of $##/month/each year of experience; health insurance; and CLC Pension Plan payments (currently $###/month after your first year).
