Lesson 9: The Lord’s Prayer - The 7th Petition

Jesus teaches us to pray…

The Seventh Petition: "But deliver us from evil."

Dr. Martin Luther explains…

What does this mean? We pray in this petition that our Father in heaven would deliver us from every evil to body and soul, property or reputation, and finally, when our last hour comes, give us a joyful end and take us in grace form this valley of sorrows to Himself in heaven.

Scripture on "evil":

  1. Who is the source of all evil? (cf. Isaiah 14:12-15; John 8:44; Ephesians 6:12)
  2.

  3. What is "evil"?
  4. For what do we ask in this petition?
