Lesson 1: Prayer in General

Text: Luke 11:1,5-13

  1. Read Luke 11:1 and answer the following questions: What can we learn from the fact that Jesus prayed to His heavenly Father? (Look up the following passages to help you answer the question: Hebrews 2:14,18; John 5:17-18; Luke 22:41-42.) What lessons can we learn from the fact that Jesus’ disciples asked Him to teach them to pray? (Look up the following passages to help you answer the question: Matthew 6:5; 1John 5:14.)

  3. Read Luke 11:5-8 and answer the following questions: What is the point of Jesus’ story? What other story did Jesus tell to teach us the same point? (cf. Luke 18:1-5)

  5. Read Luke 11:9-10 and answer the following questions: What does Jesus tell us to do? What promise does God make to us here? What conditions does the Bible place on this promise? (Cf. Psalm 37:5; John 16:23-24; 1 John 5:14)

  7. Read Luke 11:11-13 and answer the following questions: What is the point of Jesus’ story? What does this story teach about our heavenly Father and the way in which He will answer our prayers?
